France, Gironde, Gironde estuary, Ile Paté, which is home to Fort Paté, one of the three forts built in the 17th century by Vauban to constitute the "Lock of the estuary" and to defend the city of Bordeaux. The latter has been listed since 2008 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
